Willakenzie Lavender, LLC is the lavender farm Debbie Gorham and Bob Applegate operate just outside of Yamhill, Oregon - right in the heart of wine country.  Much of the soil type on their 20 acres is ‘willakenzie’ type soil; hence the business name.  Beautiful, panoramic views surround their home along with rose and perennial gardens.  Visitors are always encouraged to tour the gardens.  Many different varieties of beardless irises, lavender and roses are featured in the landscape.

Just beyond the landscape is an extensive lavender display bed.  In the lavender fields you will find large plantings of the following lavender cultivars:  Royal Velvet, Maillette, Violet Intrigue, Gros Bleu, Provence, and Grosso.  There are close to 4000 plants in the ground with plans to plant more over the next few years.

Willakenzie Lavender specializes in growing Lavandula angustifolia, also known as ‘true lavender’ or English lavender.  It is the most sweetly scented of the lavenders.  The essential oil is used in aromatherapy and premium quality personal care products.  At Willakenzie Lavender, bath and body care products, as well as culinary lavender products, are handcrafted using estate grown lavender.  Products are available in the farm store on week-ends during the summer, in several local stores, and always by appointment.  Just give us a call or send us an email message.

In 2005, Bob and Debbie started another enterprise called Velveteen Alpacas, LLC and are raising show quality huacaya and suri alpacas.  Alpacas are among the most prized fiber animals in the world because the alpaca fleece is so soft, lightweight, lustrous and warm.  The new barn was completed in 2006 and is home to the Velveteen Alpacas herd and the farm store.  The farm store is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., from late spring through summer.  Both lavender and alpaca products are for sale, including yarn made from their alpacas.

“U-Pick Lavender” begins just before the lavender flower buds open.  Visit on the week-ends, or by appointment - call 503-662-4297 if you’d like to schedule a visit.  Bring cameras, but please leave dogs at home.
